I’m finding in my quest for self discovery that the road to self realization is akin to the roads here in the winter: full of potholes, limited visibility, and slippery patches that send you veering this way and that. Every time I think I have added another piece to my identity puzzle, a blizzard blows through and jumbles the whole shebang... So, how do we really know that we “know ourselves”, when we are constantly changing due to new experiences?

In giving this quite a bit of thought, what I’m beginning to uncover is that maybe self-knowledge isn’t about knowing everything that you are/feel/do right now (seeing how we can change our minds from one moment to the next if we so choose). Maybe self-realization is simply being connected to the present and accepting of life as it occurs, knowing that you are not only responsible for how you behave and feel in response to those events, but that you are also in control of how you behave and feel.

My current place and space in my yoga practice now has me packing up the lessons I’m getting on my mat in a figurative to-go box to bring with me everywhere. What this means to me is starting to be conscious of my breath, and my posture, and my thoughts all throughout my day, not just in the yoga studio... Taking note where I have difficulties and challenges, and gently trying to make adjustments. Failing, succeeding, and not judging either. Trying to “feel the love”, all the love that is all around me, more often, and appreciating it in all its forms.

The connection between the body and the mind is one that endlessly fascinates and intrigues me. I think its amazing how one negative situation that only impacts the mind can bring on a chain reaction of events in the body; from sweating, to shaking, increased heart rate, to a change in facial expression, the list goes on. But, little do we know at the time that we are actually allowing these things to happen! We choose to take that one situation and react to it. We choose not to maintain our breath, not to stop for a moment and stay in the present...  Rather, we often dissect every possible outcome to a future we have no control over, peaking anxieties as a result. We choose to be disappointed or angry in the end, and we decide that this was an automatic or justified emotion. But it isn’t, and we don’t have to short-change ourselves!

Blizzards in life will come, but I am starting to believe we really can be prepared for our own reactions... And in turn be accountable for our own complete happiness. We simply need to spend some time learning ourselves, being mindful of our hearts and breaths, keeping our bodies in fine shape and health, and of course practicing being here in this moment.

I hardly comment, but i did a few searching and wound up here "Yoga: The New Snow Plough for the Blizzards in My Life.".
And I do have 2 questions for you if it's allright. Is it just me or does it look as if like some of the remarks come across as if they are coming from brain dead folks? :-P And, if you are posting at additional social sites, I'd like to
